Fire Mage & Purifier of the Veiled Circle
Title: Helios of the Radiant Flame
Ephitet: The Unshadowed
Seat within the Conclave: Eighth Founder, Bearer of the Cleansing Sun
Sigil: A blazing solar disc scored by ritual scars, its light spilling downward like falling ash
Mystic Domain: Solar Pyromancy, Sacred Purification, Corruption0-Burning
Origins: The Child Who Did Not Burn
Helios was born at dawn during an eclipse that should not have happened.
His homeland, Solvaris Reach, was a desert-temple civilization devoted to the sun as both judge and witness. Fire there was not merely heat – it was truth made visible. Lies warped flame. Corruption smoked. Only what was honest burned clean.
As an infant, Helios was placed upon heated stone during his naming rite. He did not cry. The flames bent away from him, thinning into light.
The priests were divided. Some called him chosen. Others called him dangerous.
Helios grew beneath relentless sun, trained in discipline before power. He learned that solar magic is not wrath – it is revelation. To wield it without restraint was to become executioner instead of purifier.
By adolescence, Helios could burn curses from living flesh without leaving scars. By adulthood, he could hold corrupted relics barehanded and they screamed themselves empty.
He learned early:
Fire does not destroy what is innocent.
It only accelerates what is already true.
The Trial of the While Flame
Helios came to the Veiled Circle after confronting a relic no one else would touch.
The artifact – later sealed by Aegis – had been warped by prolonged exposure to divine malice. When Helios approached it, the corruption recoiled. Light flooded the chamber. Shadows peeled away from the walls like dead skin.
The Conclave subjected him to The Trial of the White Flame – a purification rite that burns away intent as much as sin. Most who enter emerge hollow.
Helios emerged diminished – but aligned.
He accepted his seat knowing his power would never be subtle, and thus would always be used last.
Role Within the Conclave
As Fire Mage & Purifier, Helios:
- Cleanses curses too deeply rooted for gentler means
- Purifies corrupted artifacts before they can be archived or sealed
- Serves as the Conclave’s final answer to abyssal taint and divine rot
- Destroys knowledge that cannot be contained without poisoning the world
His solar magic:
- Reveals hidden enchantments by casting them as shadows
- Burns falsehoods out of illusions without unraveling reality
- Weakens entities sustained by secrecy, despair, or rot
Helios does not enjoy his work.
Every purification costs him warmth.
Every cleansing leaves him warmth.
Every cleansing leaves him colder.
Connection to the Zuwa Lineage
The Zuwa bloodline reacts to solar magic in a way Helios has never seen elsewhere.
They do not recoil.
They reflect.
When Helios first traced Zuwa lineage threads through cursed relics and blood-bound artifacts, the solar flame did not consume them. It passed through – changed, softened, redirected.
Helios realized the Zuwa resonance does not oppose darkness.
It denies ownership.
With Bramwell Zuwa, Helios is cautious to the point of reverence.
In a vision induced by Cassandra’s Dreaming and Dionysus’s restrained rite, Helios saw Bramwell standing in radiant fire – not burning, not glowing – but casting a shadow shaped like a doorway.
Helios has since vowed never to unleash full solar judgment near Brawmell.
Some flames are not meant to decide.
Relationship with Other Members
- Aegis trusts Helios with destruction when sealing fails
- Bellatrix avoids his presence – light disrupts her illusions
- Cassandra warns him which futures to burn and which to leave
- Dionysus tempers his rites to prevent ecstatic combustion
- Erytheia consults him before destroying irreplaceable texts
- Fenris reads his fires as beacons across wild distances
- Galene cools the aftermath, healing what remains
Helios knows he is not the Conclave’s balance.
He is its failsafe.
Doctrine of the Radiant Flame
"Fire is not mercy.
Nor is it cruelty.
It is clarity -
and clarity is always painful."
Helios fears a single future:
One where the Conclave uses purification to simplify the World – burning nuance, doubt, and becoming in the name of order.
If that day comes, Helios of the Radiant Flame will turn his fire inward – and become the last thing the Veiled Circle ever needs to cleanse.
