Cassandra of the Dreaming

Seer of the Veiled Circle

Title: Cassandra of the Dreaming
Epithet: The Sleepless Oracle
Seat within the Conclave: Third Founder, Voice of the Unwaking
Sigil: A closed eye crowned with a crescent moon, weeping starlight
Mystic Domain: Oneiromancy (prophecy through dreams), Astral Communion
Primary Affiliation: The Dreaming Paths of Nyxara's Realm.

Origins: The Girl Who Never Fully Woke

Cassandra was born under a shared dream.

Across three distant regions of Hio, unrelated strangers awoke the same night having dreamed of a child standing knee-deep in moonlit water, whispering names that did not yet belong to anyone alive. By dawn, Cassandra had entered the world – silent, eyes open, already watching something no one else could see.

Her mother died without ever sleeping again.

Her father vanished into a dream he refused to leave.

Cassandra was raised by intinerant mystics who quickly realized she did not have dreams – she resided in them.

As a child, she slept little. When she did, the world around her grew thin. Candles burned blue. Time slowed. People nearby experienced vivid visions they would later swear were memories.

She learned early that prophecy is not prediction.

It is recollection from a future that has already happened somewhere else.

Nyxara’s realm – the vast, moon-drowned ocean of sleeping consciousness – opened to Cassandra before she learned to speak. She walked its shores nightly, guided by entities that spoke in tides and constellations. Unlike most seers, Cassandra did not drown in the Dreaming.

She learned to breathe there.

Initiation into the Veiled Circle

The Conclave did not seek Cassandra.

They were warned.

A dream spread among the founding members – identical, unavoidable, repeating for seven nights. In it, a woman with silver-veined eyes stood before a sealed door and said only:

“If you do not let me in, I will arrive anyway.”

When Cassandra appeared at the threshold of the Conclave’s hidden sanctum, Aegis felt the vaults stir. Bellatrix failed to obscure her presence. For the first time, concealment and containment both feared.

She woke screaming.

She accepted her seat anyway.

Role within the Conclave

As Seer & Diviner, Cassandra:

  • Interprets prophetic dreams and long-form visions
  • Communes directly with Nyxara’s realm to extract symbolic truth
  • Identifies branching timelines, not fixed outcomes
  • Warns the Conclave of futures best-avoided – often too late

Her prophecies are never absolute.

They arrive fragmented: reflections in water, whispered nursery rhymes, half-burned constellations.

Cassandra refuses to clarify visions beyond what is safe to know. Those who press her too hard often dream themselves into madness.

She does not prevent fate.

She teaches others where not to look.

Connection to the Zuwa Lineage

The Zuwa bloodline appears in Cassandra’s dreams more than any other.

Long before Bramwell’s birth, Cassandra dreamed of a child standing beneath a broken moon, shadows kneeling around him – not in reverence, but in expectation.

She tried to intervene.

Nyxara showed her the cost.

Cassandra has since acted as the Conclave’s reluctant witness to Zuwa destiny:

  • She foresaw the fracturing of Zakia Zuwa’s path but could not prevent it
  • She dreamed of the Silent High Witch altering prophecy and chose not to warn the Circle
  • She alone saw Bramwell outside the final vision – alive where prophecy said silence should be

Unlike Aegis, who guards Bramwell, or Bellatrix, who hides him, Cassandra does neither.

She believes Bramwell is not meant to fulfill prophecy.

He is ment to wake the dreamers.

Doctrine of the Dreaming

"The future is not ahead of us.
It is asleep beneath us.
Step softly -
or you will wake what should remain dreaming."

Cassandra fears one truth more than any nightmare:

That Bramwell Zuwa may one day walk freely through Nyxara’s realm – uninvited, unbound, and fully awake.

And if he does…

The Dreaming will no longer belong to the gods.
